Positionality, Critical Reflexivity, and Whitelash in Social Work

About this event:  This workshop will provide an overview of past and present-day social and racial justice efforts in social work education and a dissection of the strengths and weaknesses behind implementation of these efforts. Participants will be engaged to think critically about their own positionality in relation to structural and institutional harm in the context of ethical dilemmas. The workshop will address the structural roots and underlying emotions undergirding the current attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion and the potential impacts on social work education. How whiteness has shaped social work education and various manifestations of whiteness will be explored. The workshop will conclude with an activity aimed at providing participants with a roadmap for transforming social work education.
